A fresh look for upcoming trips on the traveler mobile app, and more!

This week’s product update brings some exciting changes to the traveler mobile app, new time-saving tools for advisors, and an update on our editor roadmap.

Let’s take a look at what’s new.

A Fresh Look for the Mobile App's Trips Page

First impressions matter, and the latest version of the Tern mobile app delivers a much more polished and functional trip landing experience for travelers.

Travelers can now toggle easily between upcoming and past trips—one of the most common pain points we heard about the app. The layout is clean, photo-forward, and visually engaging, with large images that reflect each journey.

  • Upcoming trips are now sorted from soonest to furthest out, so the next trip always appears right at the top.
  • Past trips are organized in reverse—newest first—making it easier to reference recent adventures.

This update is already live in both app stores, so travelers can download it now and start enjoying the enhanced experience.

Quality-of-Life Wins for Advisors

In addition to the app improvements, we’ve rolled out several thoughtful upgrades that make your day-to-day work a little smoother:

  • Mark items as paid/unpaid directly from the Authorizations table. No more clicking into each booking just to update payment status—just click the action menu to change pricing status.
  • Helpful new “empty states” for first-time users. When advisors (or team members) log in and don’t have any trips or bookings yet, the app now offers visual cues and direct links to get started—whether that’s building an itinerary, collecting payment, or adding bookings.
  • New itinerary guidance. When you're on the itinerary tab and there are no items yet, Tern now clearly shows you how to add items—either by dragging them in or clicking the “+” button. Especially helpful on iPads or smaller screens where drag-and-drop isn’t as intuitive.

New Editor Support in the Mobile App

We’ve also updated the mobile app to support content created with Tern’s new itinerary editor. That means:

  • New traveler app update (available now): supports new editor content.
  • Trips/activities support (in beta ~tomorrow): will let you edit trip content with the new editor. After a beta period this will roll out to everyone next week.
  • Once that happens → travelers will need to upgrade the app to see formatting for any activities using the new editor.
    • This won’t impact trips / activities that haven’t been republished in a while / you haven't edited with the new editor.
    • This won’t impact any travelers in offline mode.
    • All content will be shown - this just impacts formatting.
